2. How long were you planning to be on the road?
For 6 months.

3. Did you have a fixed route in mind?
We had a general idea of what we wanted to see but were willing to flex to the circumstances. Since the start of the expedition was scheduled for the winter of 2002, we decided to head east from California along the Gulf of Mexico towards Florida, then north along the coast and back west through the northern states. We consulted with locals to obtain insider information and occasionally changed our route accordingly.

4. Where did you spend the nights?
For the most part, we camped. We have altered our Jeep Cherokee to sleep two people. See ABOUT THE RIG for details.
Now and then, we enjoyed the comfort of a motel or hotel. However, camping offered the huge advantage of access to less populated areas.
In some areas, backcountry camping is permitted as long as the BACKCOUNTRY RULES are obeyed. This is definitely the best way to discover the roads less traveled.

6. Are you planning any other expeditions in the future?
Definitely. We are interested in a trip to Alaska. One of our dreams is to travel through Australia. Last but not least North Africa is on our plan. We'll keep you updated.

7. What's that black thing on your hood?
A custom-built storage box. We needed all the storage space we could get for this expedition.
