The install of these skid plates
is very easy thanks to the clear instructions. However, if you run a Skyjacker
Lift with a subframe, some minor fabrication is necessary.
First I had to grind off a good portion of the tab that is mounted with
the passenger side control arm bolt (see pic on the right). The second
modification was to weld on a couple of mounting brackets to attach to
the Skyjacker transmission crossmember. Since I didn't want the skid plate
to hang too low I needed the brackets to tuck it up a little further.
Now I was ready to install the Skidrow plate. I bolted the passenger side
on and used self-tapping screws to attach the brackets to the transmission
crossmember. Then I looped the Skidrow mounting bracket around the front
driveshaft and bolted it to the spot where the lower control arm had been
mounted on the driver side. Finally I connected the mounting loop with
the skid plate using the two provided bolts.
My engine protection was done.
And for future reference: It is still easy to change the oil.
A tip: Bend a piece of cardboard to stick through the drain hole to guide
the oil into the pan.
